Walk-in closet renovation

When we started our travels August 1st 2019, we had created a walk-in closet in the back of the living room.

Downsizing was tough enough, so I at least had to hold on to something that was dear to me: My rather large assortment of clothes...well and shoes!
One has to travel in style, you know.

The back of the trailer when we originally started to renovate. BEFORE we ever put in the walk-in closet.

Then came the finished walk-in closet that didn't survive.

In order to house these clothes and all, Joe had to build a clothes rack,  that stretched from wall to wall. Then we also had brought 2 dressers from our previous home, for that space. It was a good set up because it was all situated under the king sized loft, that was above. This loft was then used as additional storage space.

Well the rough Texas highways did a number on this construction. First, half of the above loft partially collapsed.
Joe fixed it by reinforcing the structure.
But the rough highways won. It didn't hold (insert sad face here)!

By the time we got to Las Cruces,  New Mexico, Joe knew something had to change dramatically..
.....and so it did.

After spending a good amount of time sketching out new ideas, he finally came up with a plan that was very functional, and also very time consuming and a BIG project.
***************
Fast forward 1 month later. Below is the story in pictures on how we got to the finish line...:

Joe built the frame to the new upper level of the closet. In the newly created lower level, the dogs future cubby, litter box cubbie and storage for us was going to go in. The open ramp also served as an additional surface to work on.

Stairs came next.

A shelf was built from scratch.

The dresser found it's new spot on the upper closet level.

The outside work areas! Good thing we had nice weather.

A new wall was put up to separate the livingroom and new closet.

Joe built a utility closet with a decorative door. Then he put in new flooring to match the flooring in the livingroom.

Then it was time to prime, paint and polyurethane everything.

And then it was finally done! The new look of the back of the living room wall...

and behind that wall the new closet!

It was a lot of hard labor for Joe but boy,  did he do an outstanding job!

As part of our efforts to be green, Joe was able to re-use more than
80 % of the previous existing materials to build the new closet!
