Becoming residents

Image
As we are approaching the sizzling Florida summer season, I realize this is our second summer here already.  I remember visiting my girlfriend in Tampa years ago and going for a morning walk. I remember looking over at her, walking leisurely next to me. Her face is  glistening. I said: "Are you wearing a shiny lotion or are you sweating"?  She replied with: "I am sweating". It's what you do here.  Surprised I said that I assumed one would get used to this climate after some time. When it's hot and humid you kinda melt.  Welcome to SOUTHERN FLORIDA.   Our apartment has become our home. This city has become OUR city. We are constantly exploring and expanding our knowledge of what Saint Petersburg is all about.  Our place is only a 15 minute bike ride to the popular St. Pete Pier. Located downtown its one of the many happening places.  Outdoorsy tan people in shorts, on scooters you can rent at eve...

A new business in the making

Image
A new business venture! If it wasn't for friends believing in us! In Joe and my case, our good friend Keith is the believer and driving force that is behind my new Facebook page: "Tiny Home Makeovers By Ulrike ". Keith was the reason we stayed in Las Cruces, New Mexico for 2 months.  We property sat for him.   We also had the privilege to meet him in person for a few days and we all just clicked and became friends effortlessly.  Keith (in above picture with baseball cap) was impressed as soon as he walked into our 5th wheel. Then there were posts made on   "The RV Bunch".   People really reacted to pictures of our renovations. You put all of this positivity together and the result was...: " Hey let's see if we can turn our love for overhauling, my passion for decorating and beautifying spaces into a business?!" With that being said, I will share with you my very first video that I just made today. It's ...

Learning from failure

Image
As new full time RV'ers we are learning from mistakes as we go. When we joined "The RV Bunch" and shared photos of our finished trailer, we received an overwhelming (in a good way that is...) 3100 likes and almost a thousand comments. A bunch of people asked how we secure all the decor etc. when travelling. Many people assumed that we stay in one place because we have a lot of decor! Heck no I shall say to that! Our decor and the fact that we chose to furnish our tiny home with our own furniture is the main reason why we feel so at home now, that we live in this space full time.  You may also ask (after seeing our pictures), how in the world we manage to secure it all! It's a learning process, but we are slowly (and a few times real quick) seeing what works and what doesn't.  After jamming our furniture all together to avoid it from moving, Joe secured each piece with mainly l-brackets.        The walk-in closet took a little l...

Behind the scenes

Image
It seemed like all we did with all of our free time was fix up the trailer. Endlessly. We were tired! The transitioning process took 10 months. Here are some behind the scenes pictures... ... Peanut is tired of watching me paint the future floors. Joe is getting ready to build the walk-in closet underneath the king sized loft.  Shelter from the sun and rain while prepping the future floors.  In the works:   Future bathroom barn-themed pocket doors. Dissessemled closet doors are getting painted. Everything got taken apart.                                            The mess! Joe at work. Bird is helping too! Or is he? The bedroom built-ins before we removed them. Everything with a new coat of paint. Kitchen cabinets have been taken off to get painted. The bathroom barn doors are fin...

Yay, it's finished?

Image
By July. 31st we finished the last “must do “ items in order to start our new travel adventure  in the 5th wheel. Did we get everything done as planned? Hell no. Reality sunk in that we’ll just have to take some unfinished projects on the road with us. We felt a bit defeated that all of our hard work and planning for the big day didn't work out 100%. But after the realization about where we were with all final touches that couldn't get done, Joe prepared himself accordingly. He had kept a handful of necessary equipment  and tools that he felt were important to have for small projects and repairs. The list includes:  Sets of pliers, sockets, drill, saws, saw horses, pancake air compressor, pressure washer, small amounts of varies hardware, lubricants. The weekend before Aug. 1st, our official departure day, we had an open house, or trailer warming party. We wanted to show our friends and neighbors our labor of love and have a chance to see familiar fac...
