When it feels like home

If you RV you might have experienced this feeling. If you are not an RV'er what I am about to talk about might ring true to you when you vacation at a new place.

You book this destination and now that it's all said and done you have this slight anxiety;  did I book the right destination, a place that I will enjoy fully, with no regrets?

When we left our last location in Napa and decided to commit to our current place, being a caretaker at the Sikes Adobe Historic Farmstead in Escondido,  CA,  this is the exact feeling I had!  Would this place be a good fit for our desires, the experience we seek, the kind of memory we want to create?

I am the planner and the person in our relationship that seeks out new places to visit, for the most part. In the past I was the one finding vacation destinations and the best deals, the best prices for our budget.

Over time I noticed that once we would get to that spot that I booked, I still wasn't done comparing. There was always better accommodations, better locations within the area.

To this day I still catch myself doing this and I tell myself to stop! Sometimes this interferes with the actual experience and it is counter productive, isn't it?

We have now been here for almost 3 months. I look back at the reservations I originally had, the little war in my head that I just told you about.

Coming here has been the best decision. It's like coming home. No, not compared to the home we left behind in Colorado.....

Do you ever get to a place, it doesn't have to be a vacation spot. It can be someone's home, a beautiful house you walk past, a cizy place you read about in a magazine? Something that draws you in and makes you just wanna exhale and .... stay?

 Exactly!

This is how I feel every morning. After the bicyclists have left the premises and gone home.  After the many walkers and runners have returned to their families for the evening, I feel like I have this whole beautiful place to myself.

Then it's just me and nature. The colorful landscape with an abundance of native plants, the bunnies hopping around, the many ground squirrels and endless amounts of never resting tiny lizards.

You might find to me standing in the orchard watering the many peach trees, vegetables and flowers that are grown here for the weekly farmers market.

In the mornings you will see me walking around very early, hoping to see an occasional coyote that wonderous around. The frequent morning fog that comes down from the mountain and drapes itself slowly over the valley makes for a cool and comfortable start of the day.

This is the place where I feel at home, at least until September 1st, when we move on to our future adventurers.

As with everything in life, you can only plan so much. But there is still alot you leave up to chance. In our case, it was so worth taking.
