Elvis and Graceland

Image
Growing up in Germany 🇩🇪 I can't say I was an Elvis fan.  But I am certain generations before me were! If you would have told me back then, that one day I would be walking 🚶‍♂️ on Elvis's property I would have called you delirious! Well on that beautiful day in October I did, accompanied by my wonderful husband. What an honor to visit "HIM"! From his humble beginnings in Tupelo, Mississippi, to his rock & roll megastardom   Elvis Presley lead a truly larger-than-life existence. When I think of Elvis I always think of the song "walking in Memphis ". I wasn't sure what to expect.  For today's standards, Graceland is not as grand as I thought. Todays mansions have entrances made for a king with huge staircases; with kitchens the size of 10 kitchens put together, where I grew up. Not to forget the walk-in pantry, dual range and a fridge big enough to store food for an entire football team.  His kitchen was dark, with carpeting. But for the era i...

A journey across the US

Image
WE MADE IT  6 weeks of traveling, crossing the southern parts of the US. 6 weeks ago we embarked on this journey, leaving behind a beautiful serene place that we fell in love with instantly.  Sikes Adobe Historic Farmstead, Escondido,  CA. Just to trade it in for what was really a lot of uncertainty.   ,Not knowing if our new temporary home would be equally wonderful. Lunch at the Famcamp in  Oklahoma City,  OK 6 weeks ago we packed up our things, yet again. The plan was to drive an average of 3 to 4 hours per day.  To not rush but take things slow, to " smell the roses" along our long path.  This journey took us through California, Arizona, New Mexico,  Texas, Oklahoma,  Arkansas, Mississippi,  Alabama and finally FLORIDA!  Us in Old Mesilla, NM But in the real world,  it's not just those red roses along the way. Obstacles scattered our path like thorns,  to remind us that one must sometimes master obstac...

Destin Army Recreation Area, FL

Image
The Destin Army Recreation Area Florida   🏝🏝🏝🏝🏝🏝🏝🏝🏝🏝  The location and cost of this place are the best features.  On one side of this park you have awesome views of Choctawhatchee Bay and another 3 miles (approximately) and you are at the beach.   This campground is a combination of RV sites with a handful of pull thru's but mostly back in sites that can take a little navigation to squeeze in. The other feature here are the guest houses and "hotel rooms " that are available for rent.  Most of these have bay views. For kids there's a splash park and play ground. The swimming 🏊‍♂️ pool is a definite bonus with its shady covered areas to just "be ". We paid $ 40 per night for our full hookup site. Prices vary by rank.  For us, this is on the upper end of what we are used to paying at FamCamps/military installations but fact is, you pay more because you are at a desirable area of Florida.  Click on the link below for more info about this RV...

Diversity everywhere

As we continue our journey and are now slowly making our way across the US from California to Florida,  it couldn't be more obvious how different each state is from another.  There are the obvious COVID19 safety standards.  In California people obey the 6 ft. distance rule inside stores.  In Arkansas,  not nessesarry!  In New Mexico we got to finally enjoy some dancing; outside at our favorite winery. It was wonderful!   Amaros Winery in Las Cruces,  NM Seeing familiar faces             The one way isles in stores don't seem to exist in Arkansas at this point. Leaving me feel almost normal, if it wasn't for the dreaded face mask. In Oklahoma people mingled mask-free at the RV park and helped us with our broken down truck, Covid or not.   Our spot at the famcamp in OKC Enjoying a walk around the adjacent pond  We just heard that Florida lifted its face mask mandate.  Can't wait to see wha...
